Tough As Nails Mod: Try To Survive With Realistic Features

Minecraft is very easy, isn’t it? You just gather materials, craft, defeat some normal mobs, and equip yourself with diamond or netherite tools and armors. After this point, defeat the Wither and Ender Dragon is pretty straightforward. The game is even easier with any Minecraft Speedrunner.

Today, I’m gonna introduce a Minecraft mod called “Tough As Nails”. Like its name, this will massively increase the difficulty of the Minecraft world by adding a ton of features include the thirst and temperature system. So watch out!

1. What is Minecraft Tough As Nails?

Tough as Nails is a Minecraft mod created by Glitchfiend back in 2016 and it has over 10 million downloads. Due to the gameplay changes, the Minecraft community and veteran players are super hype when this mod comes out. Because Minecraft was just easy at that point.

By adding various features into the game, Tough As Nails mod Minecraft makes the survival process in Minecraft is harder than ever! You must focus not only on your hunger bar, but even your thirst bar, and your body temperature as well!

For more realistic and immersive, the weather and seasons system is also included in the mod. However, this is still in development and roughly gets implemented in RLCraft, but not the mod itself. Just imagine you need to keep yourself warm for a long winter season. Rough!

2. Minecraft Tough As Nails Mod Features

Tough as Nails is a survival mod that aims to increase the struggle for survival. Let’s talk about Tough As Nails Minecraft mod features! They include the thirst system, where you need to constantly drink to keep yourself hydrated. The temperature system, where you need to keep yourself warm or cool enough in the environment.

1. Thirst

The first thing you will notice right away is the new bar on top of your hunger bar, with water drop icons. This is your thirst bar, and just like hunger, the thirst bar will drop down when you do some actions like running, jumping, or fighting.

If your thirst bar drop below 2 icons, the screen will start to blur and you will feel dizzy. When it reaches zero, you will slowly take damage until death. Just like what happens with the hunger bar.

In order to bring your thirst up, you will need to drink water. Obviously, right? You may need a water bottle, right-click any water source to get the dirty water. And you can drink it too! But doing so will give you a Thirsty effect, just like when you eating the Zombie flesh.

To purify the water, you will need to cook it with charcoal, either in the furnace, or a water boiler. Another way to collect pure water is by using the Rain Collector, and waiting for rain :)

2. Body Temperature

Another thing on your HUD is the grey circle in the middle, between the health bar and hunger bar. Over time, you can see it changing the state, indicate the temperature of your body. So pay attention to it! The orange up arrow means you are getting hot and the blue down arrow means you getting cold.

The temperature depends on a lot of different criteria, including seasons, biome, time of day, weather, sprinting, clothing, hot source blocks, being in the water, and being near coils. For example, temperature shifting for snow is a real thing, so avoid staying in the Taiga biome for too long!

If the temperature is too hot, you will get Hyperthermia. This can happen for staying near lava, or hot biomes like the Desert, Jungle, and Savanna for too long. And this frequently happens in the summer. So you need to stay cool by diving in the water, wearing Slime armor, or using a cooling coil.

If the temperature is too cold, you will likely get Hypothermia. Which is the opposite effect of Hyperthermia. So try to stay away from Taiga and Tundra biome, as well as keep yourself warm in the Winter. Now the game is more immersive since you have to stay near the heat source in order to survive!

3. Items and Blocks

Tough as Nails provide some custom blocks and items with it, which is mostly use for gather water and adjust the temperature. For example, the Rain Collector is the custom block that will collect rain and snow and store it in the container. You then can get 1 full water bucket or 3 water bottles from it. However, Rain Collector will not work in-house :).

The 2 coils that will save your life, Heating Coil and Cooling Coil. After turning them on by a Redstone signal, they will provide a suitable temperature for the surrounding area. Opposite to the Rain Collector, these coils must be placed in the room, without any blocks exposed to outside.

A Canteen is a mobile water container you will need in the early game when you don’t find any irons yet. It can contain both unpurified water and pure water, so it’s really suitable if you want to use the rough strategy. Where you will constantly drink dirty water until you’ve settled a base.
